The 19th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia has officially opened its doors, and the UAE proudly stands at the forefront with its National Pavilion exhibition titled “Pressure Cooker.” On this momentous occasion, H.E. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates, inaugurated the UAE’s pavilion, setting the tone for a season of bold architectural dialogue, innovation, and cultural exchange.
The National Pavilion UAE has long been recognized for its cutting-edge approaches and its commitment to addressing the pressing global challenges of our time through design and architecture. This year’s exhibition, Pressure Cooker, resonates deeply with themes of resilience, adaptability, and creative problem-solving under the intensifying pressures of modern urban life.
Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi didn’t stop at the UAE Pavilion. He toured numerous country pavilions across the Biennale grounds, engaging with diverse architectural visions from around the world. His visits highlighted an array of experimental, sustainable, and innovative projects that reflect the evolving dynamics of architecture in the 21st century. From climate-responsive designs to community-focused urban planning, the Biennale is once again serving as a critical stage where nations present their most forward-thinking architectural solutions.

On the sidelines of the opening, H.E. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi also met with H.E. Alessandro Giuli, the Italian Minister of Culture. The two leaders discussed strengthening cultural cooperation between the UAE and Italy, building on the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the official visit of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to the Italian Republic. This dialogue underscored the shared commitment of both countries to deepen cultural ties and foster collaboration across creative sectors.

In his reflections, Sheikh Salem emphasized the importance of cross-cultural learning and knowledge sharing. He underscored that architecture today is not just about aesthetics or function, but about shaping environments that can withstand social, environmental, and technological shifts. As the UAE continues to expand its cultural and creative footprint globally, its presence at La Biennale di Venezia reaffirms its role as a hub for artistic innovation and sustainability.
The Biennale runs throughout the summer and invites visitors, architects, students, and art enthusiasts alike to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of ideas, challenges, and visionary designs from across the world. The UAE Pavilion, in particular, promises to be a highlight for those curious about how the nation is blending heritage, modernity, and future-forward thinking.
